This prominent site, which includes the former Ocean Hotel, a 1935 Art Deco listed building, had fallen into disrepair. Following extensive planning consultations with the Local Council, JG completely revitalised the area, retaining the original listed building whilst demolishing several extensions which detracted from its status.
The creation of four new wings and a new building on the adjacent car park resulted in a significant landmark of apartments, community and commercial space, which brought new life to the area. JG’s careful consideration of local community feelings and empathy with the building’s listed status ensured strong support from the Local Council and residents alike.
